The number of mandatory labelling requirements is increasing, often to the detriment of marketing information that is key for manufacturers and their customers. Augmented reality offers additional room for content that doesn't fit on the label. Augmented reality (AR) is a technology that allows users to see virtual images embedded in the real world through their mobile phone or iPad screens. AR is becoming increasingly popular and is reaching many fields, including manufacturing, healthcare, education, and entertainment. One of the areas where AR can prove useful is in labels.

What is LiveLabel?

To bring labels to life, we have developed our own application at Label design. LiveLabel is our app that adds another dimension to the label experience. By combining AR and graphics, a regular label can be transformed into an interactive information tool or even into another form of entertainment. Just install the app and point your smartphone or tablet at a label.

How does it work and why?

LiveLabel uses your device's camera and special software to convert static labels into interactive virtual content. By pointing your mobile phone at the label graphic, you can see a 3D model which you can zoom in and view from different angles, or look at the product's instructions for use. (I believe users will appreciate this when assembling furniture, for example😊). Tickets can be used to invite a popular performer to your concert, labels can tell the story of the product’s production, the company's history, or even showcase the company's activities.

Exactly what happens with a label depends on the specific animation that a manufacturer creates and that is ultimately associated with that specific label.

There is a wide range of possibilities for packaging labels and it is only up to the imagination and creativity of the producers and animators.

You can see a sample of some of them below.
